Map and Dough Map

We met at Lisa's for mapping and the salt dough maps. It was, for some of us, the blind leading the blind. Some of us had it together and that is great! If one of us has it together we are good to go. I am definitely getting the hang of this. One day at a time of course. My girls LOVE mapping! Sarah keeps checking her dough map to see if it's drying. It really takes a long time to dry in humid weather.
Good news! I cleaned a lot of the basement last night and today and I think there is hope for next week. Sarah made a paddle doll today. It turned out very cute. Maybe as we have time, we can get together other times to do other activities as well. Especially for those who find doing art projects a challenge. Anyway, I guess we will learn as we go.
The girls were doing their maps today and I have a question. Maybe for Lisa - There are printed labels for "Egyptian Resource Map". Ummm... Can someone tell me where to find the directions for that? I'm sorry I'm so dumb here. I really need my hand held. I am NOT administrative in nature AT ALL! Reading manuals is very challenging for me. Right Laura?
Lisa, can you send me a few pix from yesterday so I can try to post them here for all to see? Thanks!
More later!

A Late Start

Well, it was a late start! I didn't get up until 7:00am. I already know one or two of you did NOT get up late. That is okay because we worked at a regular pace and just did what we could until 4:00pm. It was fun though and we did have to go to the orthodontist at 1:30. So we didn't work the whole time. I did let them come up for air.
Working through the curriculum, I feel like I'm forgetting to teach some stuff. I keep forgetting we have the whole week to do "Week 1". So that was day 1.
Day 2 was much better with getting up on time. I was up before 6:00am and so was Sarah and Jamie wasn't far behind. Steph.... well, she was really tired. She got up around 8:30. We had our first Writing class and Sarah had her first science class. I think it went very well! I was excited when we left. I was very happy with the way it went even though I think we all were a little nervous how it would go. Praise the Lord! He is so faithful to help us and carry us through. I can't wait until tomorrow for mapping and our salt dough maps!
We will not be here at my house though, my basement is not ready yet. It is a mess.
I am concerned about getting all our required reading in. It seems by the time we get everything else done, we are too tired to read. I actually read a chapter out of the Ancient Egyptians book to them at dinner tonight. I guess it really doesn't matter how they get the information, as long as they get it. How is everyone else doing?

We're Off!!!!

Yahoo! We are off! To what kind of start, well, time will tell. I am reading the teacher's notes tonite and sitting the girls down at 9:00am to go over how everything is going to work. Logging, reading assignments, writing notebook, mapping notebook, science notebook, schedule, etc...
My prayer is that I can get up by 6:00am to have my quiet time with the Lord, get on the treadmill, shower, make breakfast, then start at 9:00. Technically, this should work with no problem except if I get to bed too late tonite. I am praying for each of our families tonite that the Lord would grant us a smooth transition. "The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

Get Set!

The Library has called me twice for picking up my books! I picked them up on Thursday and they called again on Friday to tell me my books were in. Maybe there are more books I didn't get the first time. I can't imagine MORE books! We will barely get through the ones we have now. Only because we aren't used to it yet. The girls have begun reading "The Golden Goblet". It is a long book and I can't imagine they would finish in two weeks if they don't start now.
Paint brushes! As of today, please bring your own paint brushes as well as salt dough and other supplies. I have paint brushes somewhere. If I find them, I will let you all know and you won't have to bring your own.
Today is a good day to put all my girls' books and supplies together in their respective piles. I will take them one by one (Lord willing) and explain their individual program. I need them to be very clear on what they need to do come Monday morning.
My biggest fear is getting them motivated and back on the learning track again. Please pray for each other that the transition will go smoothly for each of us.
How is everyone else scheduling their time? Are you doing Math, Spelling, Grammar, in the morning or afternoon?
TOG reading - morning or afternoon? Please post how it is working next week.

On Our Marks!

It is Friday, August 17th and we are now down to the wire! I just got home from Michael's because I am a craft person and love crafts sooooo I bought some items we need to do the activities next week. Let's double check!
Foam board or something sturdy for the salt dough map
paint to paint it next week OR Call Lisa and tell her you would like to use some of her paints.
Flour
Salt
toothpicks
Can someone bring extra toothpicks in case I forget to get them? I have shopped four or five times and still can't remember toothpicks!
I also checked out the other activities for the week and we are doing a few others on our own. Sarah is going to make a paddle doll (LG) and the other two are making a necklace or bracelet with sculpey.
I got the books from the library that we are borrowing on Thursday.
By the way, BVHeroes (a homeschool group in De.) is having a mini homeschool convention/curriculum sale on Sunday night Aug. 19th. It is from 6:00 to 9:00 at the Community Center in front of Target on 202, right off of rte 1. I think there will be encouragement seminars as well as used curriculum tables.
I know Lisa and I will be there and Laura if she still wants to do it when she gets home from her vacation. I haven't heard from her so I haven't had a chance to tell her.
Anyway, let's continue to pray this weekend for each other and our awesome privilege to home school. I pray we all get off to a wonderful start.
